Hosts Egypt opened the 27th World Men's Handball Championship - Egypt 2021 with a 35:29 win against Chile.

Yehia Al Deraa, Egypt, left back: "Last year saw the entire world go through one of the most difficult periods ever, but we managed to do everything we can to host this tournament. Through this match against Chile, we sent a message saying we're going to fight for every match. This is a good start for us."
Emil Feuchtmann, Chile, center back: "Playing against Egypt was difficult, we weren't as good as we have to be to win against a big team like Egypt. We have two big games against Sweden and North Macedonia, but we have a good chance of advancing to the next stage and our match against North Macedonia will be pivotal."
Kareem Hendawy, Egypt Goalkeeper: "It's a huge dream for us to be playing here in Egypt. We made a few errors that we hope to get over during the rest of the games. Absence of fans will not stop us, but their presence will make a difference."
Mohammed Sanad, Egypt, right winger: "The win is great to start the tournament. Playing against North Macedonia in the next match will not be easy, but we will go through the tournament game by game."
