Road to Egypt 2021: Egypt will host the 2021 IHF Men’s World Championship after having won the 2020 African Men’s Handball Championship.

History: Egypt have made 15 World Championship appearances, securing their best-ever fourth place finish back in 2001.

Nickname: The Pharaohs

Egypt are one of the top-tier handball teams in Africa, along with Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Angola. Egypt won the African Handball Championship six times and have finished runner-ups six times, out of 22 appearances in the continental tournament.

The Pharaohs handball team have made six appearances at the Summer Olympic Games. Their best finish was sixth at the Atlanta 1996 Games, when they lost the fifth-place match to Russia.

Egypt have also made 15 appearances in the Handball World Championship, and their best result was fourth place in the 2001 edition held in France.

Egypt, having also won the 2020 African Handball Championship title, will also be playing on their home court as hosts of the 2021 tournament, and will also be boosted by the junior and youth conquests in the 2019 IHF competitions.
